The Dentist and Two Teeth Pulled

The kids got their teeth cleaned and all spruced up. Jackson's two front teeth were very loose, so the dentist decided to just pull them instead of having them hang in there for weeks. It is so strange seeing him with his teeth missing! So to celebrate we took a trip to McDonald's for a caramel sundae.

Pumpkin Festival Time!

Even though the pumpkin festival is the same every year...we had to go to get some yummy soup and let the kids play in the hay. It is a good way to get in the fall mood.

AJ's Tooth #2

This tooth finally came out!

It has been hanging in there for way too long. The worst part about it is his permanent tooth started to come in behind it. He would not let me try to pull it (I failed too many times to get it out), so I scheduled a cleaning where hopefully they would pull it then. Thankfully at the culinary walk while the kids were in the bounce house it came out then. He was very excited!

 He put it in the tooth pillow that was Jason's when he was a boy. When he woke up...there was money! Magical tooth fairy came to our house last night...

Culinary Wanderung

Some snapshots of the 6 kilometer walk with food and wine tents along the way. 

We went with the Greens and a friend who I work with, Rebecca and her family. The weather was a nice fall day with no rain.

 At one of the stops Jackson was so excited to find a GeoCache box! He left bouncy ball and took a small toy. He was so excited!

Soccer Time!

It's that time of year again and now Grace gets to join Jackson in the soccer season.  

Grace was so cute when she played during the game. She smiled the whole time and kept looking at us to make sure we were watching. She really did good getting after the ball and trying her best. At this age it's funny to watch them play because they all just run in a big group together around the field. 

                                             

 Jackson is a great soccer player! He sat out for a few minutes in the beginning and within the first 30 seconds of playing he scored the first goal for the team. He did a great job turning the ball around and getting it away from the other team. He scored 3 more goals for his team during the remainder of the game! He was true to his name "Action Jackson."

J & G First Day of School

Summer vacation was so much fun with all of our traveling and visitors over the past two months. It was inevitable that school was going to start...it just came too fast!

This year begins a new era in the Scherden home with both the kids in school all day. Hard to believe Jackson is in 2nd and Grace in kindergarten! 

Jackson was so excited to be the "big" kid at the school before he heads to the Intermediate school next year. He is starting in a new program this year called multi-age. In the program two teachers will teach combined groups of first and second grade students.The two teachers will work as a team to support student growth and success.

In the Multi-Age Classrooms:

*   Students of first and second grades will learn, work and play together every day.

              *    Students will participate in the same integrated units of study at their own developmental and academic level.

             *    Students will be grouped in flexible groups for specific needs and interests for short periods         of time. Groups will be fluid and changing based on the topic or content addressed.

*         Students will be involved in hands-on cooperative learning and experimentation

         *     Students will have daily opportunities to learn collaborative skills (i.e.: mediation, negotiation, arbitration).

*          Students will have daily opportunities to work independently on tasks and skills.

*       Students are encouraged to progress at their own developmental and ability levels.

The teacher and the students will grow as a ―community of learners.

We are excited for this opportunity for him. 

 Jackson with his schultüte. (The reason it's blurry is because he was so excited and wouldn't stop moving it.) It was filled with all sorts of goodies to celebrate the first day of school.

 Can it really be? Our baby girl is off to kindergarten!

Grace COULD.NOT.WAIT. for her first day of kindergarten! She was counting down the days until her big day. With kindergarten having a staggered start, Jackson started a week earlier than she did. It was a great way to ease both of them back into the school days.

On her first day there were 8 kids in the class (10 the day before). 

 This is a perfect example of what they think of school.

 Jason will be taking the kids to school everyday since he works right across the street. It was fun for all of them to start their new routine.

 All the kinder classes sit at the tables in the cafeteria until the bell rings. This morning being the first morning was special because Mrs. Cortez read them the book, "The Kissing Hand." Love, love this perfect book for the first day of school!

 On each of the tables were boxes of kleenex to see the kids off. 

I really thought I was ready and would be okay seeing her off to her first day...but was I wrong!

The tears started to flow when it finally hit me that she was in school and I no longer had "my little side kick" with me during the day. I will forever treasure the great days we had together when she was at FBP. Some days it was a little stressful having her there while trying to get work done. But all in all I LOVED having her right down the hall from me and having her so close.

 After school I picked her up and she was full of joy and excitement about her first day. She loved it and her teachers! Makes us happy to see her love of school already.

She loved her schultüte filled with goodies and the card with it.
